In reality, “fastest woman on ice” is just one of the many ways Bonnie could describe herself. She’s also the mother of two and a woman who suffered from SUI. Bonnie first started noticing symptoms of SUI after the birth of her first child. Read more about Bonnie’s experience with SUI and what she did to overcome it. “I first experienced SUI while I was exercising. After having my son, I was so excited to be able run again—until I found that my shorts were soaked not a block from home. Why had this happened to me? I was so embarrassed that I tried to hide it instead of doing something about it. I wore dark shorts, used feminine pads and limited my intake of fluids in a totally ineffectual attempt to cope. “When I finally got my courage and told my doctor, I was relieved to learn that most women who have urinary incontinence can do something to treat it. We discussed different treatments, including a simple minimally invasive procedure, which my doctor told me I could opt for once I was finished having babies. So, I tried every non-surgical treatment I could, including Kegel exercises and biofeedback, but with little improvement. It was after the birth of my second child, when I felt my family was complete, that I had the minimally invasive procedure using GYNECARE TVT* Tension-free Support for Incontinence. Within a day or two I was back to most of my normal activities and quickly resumed all that I had wanted to do…without ever leaking again. “If you think you may have SUI, you don’t have to suffer in silence and shame! Dealing with this problem has made me so much happier. Now I even can jump on the trampoline with my kids without fear of an accident.” |
